About the project

our stories have the power to ignite change & make a difference

In 2020, CWRU community members created multiple anonymous social media accounts for individuals to share their experiences on campus or while attending CWRU, including incidents of sexual violence, racism, homophobia, and other forms of discrimination.

These stories were not unique to 2020, and as campus & administration attention shifts away from these issues, it is imperative that we create ways to continue to hold each other and our administration accountable to the lived experience of students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Our Stories is an avenue for that.

THE STORIES

Our Stories CWRU provides a space for individuals to share their experiences in an anonymous fashion to be performed as monologues for the campus community so that we bear witness to, reckon with, and respond with active justice to the experiences of those around us.

Our Stories CWRU seeks to collect personal narratives on topics such as race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, immigration status, religion, sexuality, gender, disability, and more as experienced by students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members. In Spring 2022, members of the campus community will perform the monologues on behalf of those who submitted.

“because the stories being performed are anonymous, it makes me realize it could belong to anyone. In fact, it belongs to everyone and to each of us.”

The team

Our Stories CWRU is a student-led initiative supported by a grant through the Social Justice Institute. The directors, coaches, and performers are undergraduate students, graduate students, and community members who are invested in the CWRU community. An advisory board of students and select staff and community members will help to select the submissions to be performed. The advisory board is still being finalized at this time as well as the student directors. Information on available positions and filled positions can be found on the Get Involved page.
